About Us
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish. The purpose of the Society is to recognize high achievement in Spanish and to promote continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. The SHH was formally organized as the Spanish National Honor Society in 1953.The Society is classified as a national and international academic honor society in the study of high school Spanish and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Inc. (AATSP)

About our Chapter
Our chapter was established in the fall of 2014 and was named after the pillars for the independence of most Latin American countries. Simón Bolívar also known as El Libertador “the Liberator” was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He led the Independence from Spain of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla also known as the Father of Independence for Mexico was born in Guanajuato Mexico. He was a Roman Catholic priest who led the movement for the independence from Spain. José de San Martin was an Argentinean soldier who led the independence of Argentina, Peru and Chile. Bernardo O’Higgins was a Chilean Revolutionary leader who led the military forces against Spain for the freedom of Chile. He fought alongside of José de San Martin.José Gervasio Artigas also known as the Father of Uruguayan nationhood was born Montevideo, Uruguay.
